I’m Too Worried About Failing
If your fear of failure is stopping you from making a start with your quit attempt, it can help to change the way you view quitting. Consider the following:
- Quitting smoking is about learning a new skill. It takes practice – and like learning to ride a bike, you may fall off from time to time. It’s just part of the process, so why not see it as ‘trial and error’?
- What’s the worst that could happen if you just set a quit date and see what happens on that day?
- Similarly, what’s the worst that could happen if you just try to reduce your smoking before stopping altogether?
- Remember, it’s not sink or swim. If it doesn’t work out, you can always try again.
No matter how many quit attempts you make, the more practice you get at being a non-smoker, the closer you are to reaching your goal of being smoke-free.
