My tip for quitting the smokes is just to Do it ! And follow the simple philosophy of NOPE meaning not one puff ever. This forum is one of my better discoveries I think it’s very helpful. The nope plan is really all I need to remember. It doesn’t matter what happens ! I can now apply what I’ve learnt from this experience to other things in my life. I will still get stressed out at times but I’m not going to use smoking to ease the pain. Exercise and eating properly will be my go to things and creative projects. Is anyone else finding good things to replace smoking ?

Funny you should ask Cuba. I have done many other better things with my time and money since quitting smoking. I take pride and satisfaction in helping others to quit smoking on this very site. It not only diverted my attention from the need to smoke, but learning and feeling good also help to raise the dopamine levels which we find ourselves moody without.

I also made the decision to retire early with the savings from not smoking any longer. Unfortunately I didn't use the first year wisely and suffered a stroke. I can't help but think that my body had healed enough with the rest from smoking to enable a quick and almost complete recovery. I have since started walking and exercising daily, as well as lost some weight which I carried for many years. We can make changes when we have to. I hope no one has to,.....but WANTS to. You will wonder what took you so long!

Yes it becomes something that you do want to do. I know I’m not saying anything new when I say that getting healthy is / can be a big challenge. At the same time it’s what we really want is to be healthy. And it is our natural state to be this.

I never thought or believed that I would be able to quit smoking as I have been seriously addicted. As soon as I woke up in the morning I couldn’t make a coffee fast enough so I could have a cigarette with it. Then I smoked at every break or other times and then until I went to sleep again so it was a minimum of 12 a day up to 30 on some days. I’m now quite proud of myself for having achieved this. It does take time to fully break a habit.
