Hello, this is my first post. I am 72, and other than 4 somewhat long term quits in the past, I have smoked for nearly 50 years. This quit journey began about 2 months ago. I was alone, and awoke unable to breath. By the grace of the Almighty I managed to drive myself to the emergency room hospital. I was blue upon arrival, and taken in immediately. Was diagnosed with COPD, and a serious lung infection. No doubt to Dr. this was caused from smoking. How could I have done that to myself? Damage has obviously been done, but already I am breathing better. It's a new day now, and God may have given this old lady a second chance.

Make the best of your second chance and choose life over smoking. You have done the hard work before and can do it again. This time you are likely mentally ready as well and do it permanently. We only smoke to avoid the cravings due to the nicotine. It is boring, dirty and the only enjoyment is not having the cravings. Choose change and stop letting it rule you. Be happy with your new smoke free status and you won't even miss it.

This sounds just like my mum. As a kid I would watch her struggle to breathe, and she spent many times in hospital. And I've found myself on the same path.. I have bad asthma, which is becoming so hard to control.. my children watch me struggle. And it reminds me of my own childhood.

Congratulations on being 2 months in. Such an achievement.

Many of us don't smoke. Even after many years of heavy smoking!
