Today is my first day of cold Turkey quitting. When I woke the first thing I did was have a single smoke. Maybe cold Turkey is just too ambitious?

Does anybody have experience of Buproprion for smoking cessation?

Thank you.

Sorry, but I only know what I read and it sounds ghastly. Please read the directions thoroughly and have others aware of your use. Somewhat like Champix it shuts down the receptors and desire to smoke so that you quit smoking. Champix also can alter mood and lead to depression and suicide in some people, so read carefully. Best of luck.

Thanks for that. I tried Champix a few years ago and it had no effect on my desire to smoke. It just made me feel strange.
Bupropion is a competely different class of drug and operates on your brain in a chemically different way.
I'll try it under careful medical supervision and report back in a few weeks.
    Again, thanks for your concern.

I've used bupropion before and stopped smoking for 4 years and then 6 months (but a half hearted attempt). It basically stops the feedback loop and makes smoking extremely unpalatable and unpleasant. Because you don't produce as much dopamine when you quit, try sucking a vitamin C.tablet or drop lemon juice on your tongue, as that will produce dopamine. It's the loss of dopamine that can make quitting hard, as it causes low mood, etc. Personally I think the 3 week mark is the hardest! Also try doing something that keeps your hands busy, such as crochet, knitting, woodwork, etc.

    Thank you Sal70.
I appreciate your knowledge and advice.
It's day 7 for me now and I start the Buprion tomorrow. At the moment, cravings are less of an issue than are the mental and physical side effects of acute nicotine withdrawal. You have confirmed my belief that after almost 60 years of heavy smoking, by quitting outright I am in the process of fundamentally REWIRING my brain, so I expect I'm in for a lot of surprises, good and bad.
    Thanks again.
