I have attempted to give up many times over the last 38 years. Habit situations seem to be my major trigger and I am determined to make changes so I can quit for good

I'm finally trying to do it, habit seems to be the biggest thing, after 50+ years it's not going to be easy.

If we quit after 4 decades, you can too. There is a time when we are ready and can finally stop making excuses. It may be more difficult for some more than others, or you may find it easier than you think.
Stop putting up the roadblocks in your own mind and get on with it.
Adopt positive thinking and positive changes. YOU 've got this.

So true Happiness. There does come a time when we realize enough is enough. Other's will find endless excuses to smoke. Some will die a smoker. Some will not.
After decade's of smoking we can simply concede "I will die from anything.
, any which way . That is true

Its the chronic sickly and poor quality of life that suffers.

Try your utmost to Quit for good.
