This is not the first time I have quit, but maybe it will be the last? I have to stop smoking and using any form of nicotine so I can have surgery (a total hip replacement) . The hospital told menI have to have no nicotine in any form for thirty days, and after those thirty days I can then start the process of doing the labs etc. to get the surgery scheduled.I made it through day1!!!! I am in bed, and there are no cigarettes available, so I feel safe for day1. I made it!!!!

Welcome and wishing you well for your OP.
Many people often agree that "cold turkey" is the best method of Quitting. Well you have one day smoke-free done and dusted.

I know what you are going through, I to have to have a hip replacement, I to have to quit smoking for the operation. I am currently on Day 4 and using NRT, Thats interesting about the 30 days free of smoking before tests, Is that the minimum requirement b4 op?
Anyway wishing you all the best Moonink

Hi Moonink. I really hope that you are not thinking of taking up smoking again after you might have the surgery. That is just the worst attitude to take in taking a stance against smoking. I am not being unkind , but you really need to find the DESIRE to want to quit and finally be free from that stinky monkey on your back. Pure will power alone may prevail, but you will be miserable the whole time and the odds are not with you. Many here have smoked heavily for decades and won the battle which is actually won in the mind. Please read our stories and find your way to freedom and mobili

CHOOSE life , not smoking. Choose freedom and know that you are capable of doing this!

We all started out with hope and doubt and the hope carried us through. Actually, the BELIEF that we could make this change possible when we realize that smoking really does not do anything for us. Many believed that we enjoyed smoking, but were we really just avoiding the cravings we knew would come if we did not light up?
Smoking caused more stress than it would ever solve. Money, health and just the worry of running out before we could get more. Just think about it and realize some actual truths .

Right now you feel like you are deprived of something but perhaps it is a blessing.
I quit smoking a year before I had a stroke. Had I not I may not have made a 95% recovery.

I hope you read, learn and enjoy the most in life!
