I stopped smoking 23 years ago with nicotine chewing gum. I found it helpful in the first few days/weeks of not smoking to write down the benefits of being a nonsmoker such as saving money and being able to taste fresh food ect I also found it helpful to engage such thoughts in my mind such as how my mother smoked from the age of 16 and died from lung cancer and emphysema at the age of 68 I would also do outdoor walking and jump in the surf at the beach, drink plenty of water and I kept thinking when I experienced a craving that no human being who stopped smoking had ever died from the the withdrawal. As a smoker I smoked 100 cigarettes a day IF I CAN QUIT SO CAN YOU!!

One day at a time and 23 years later. ........and only a very small fraction was challenging perhaps and then the rest forgotten. .
We can quit smoking when we make up our minds to, and then we only remember it as a thing of the past.
I am sorry about your mother and I am sure she will continue to be remembered and loved and cherished.
That is not so with with smoking. We can forget , we do not crave , and once happily quit, , we do not want to take up that deadly, expensive, time consuming addiction ever again.
Cheers to the Fresh air man.
