Hello everyone, well I wanted to celebrate 3 yrs smoke free but forgot that I even smoked so 1102 days later (just over 3 yrs) I'm celebrating woohoo. So 1102 days ago I decided that after 33 yrs of smoking, coughing, weasing out of breath and stinking like an ashtray it was time to quit. So I went and seen the doctor got patches and was told to sign up here as part of the deal with prescribed quit methods so here I am and what a journey it has been. For the first three weeks it wasn't to bad with the patches, I was unemployed so just stayed inside reading stories and experience's on here writing my own experience's at the time it really helped being part of icanquit. Then I weaned off the patches at the end of the month, I was nicotine free and didn't my cravings let me know they were at me constantly and I was sick and tired of cleaning the house the dishes the vacuuming so I went outside and looked for something to do that I had not done with a smoke in my hand. The only thing I could think of was to weed the lawn with a fork never did that before therefore hadn't smoked doing it so for weeks I weeded the lawn when I was home to stop the cravings, don't want to put anyone off quitting but weeding didn't help with the sleepless nights, hot cold sweats the nausea, not eating probably not sure if you're arthur or martha for almost three months but after battling through all that one day at a time It got so much better cravings where easier to push aside and I could get on with life without smokes and nicotine. Icanquit community is a great help so stay in touch share your experiences and stay quit one day at a time. IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN TO.

    That's awesome AFU :o)

I appreciate the "old timers" dropping in - it lets me know that this quit is REAL and POSSIBLE.

Gardening is not for me - I've taken to renovating houses (lol) Finished my 46 square house after 14 months work - I've only been quit for 50 days now but I took a week off after the house and I started on a small unit (I bought a few months ago) just a few days ago - its amazing how much time I have now that I don't smoke and how productive I can be - and renovating houses is a good distraction too (lol)

    Drop in again...

Hi AFU I think your post should mention that you are a legend. Three years is HUGE. Like you I weeded the lawn as soon as I got home from work but like you say those early days are very hard. Thank you for sharing your great post with everyone well done

Hi A.F.U. A while ago I asked those who had lasted the distance to come back and say G'day and yes it is possible. I know for a fact that barely 6% succeed. It is therefore so good to know there are winners out there who will reassure others it is possible and that they are not alone. We start out so enthusiastically and in various states of terror and trepidation as we embark on the journey. Initially there are lots of responses from fellow quitters. One by one they disappear. One can only hope they eventually return, and some do, and pick up the journey. There aren't too many who will make it without this site. Says one after 505 days...
