Don't expect patches to be a miracle cure. See them as a product that lessens the intensity of cravings and withdrawals so as to make quitting bearable enough to go about your usual daily activities.

Officially just joined the program and have not smoked since midday on Friday 19th May as I admitted myself to hospital with pains in the chest and back and breathlessness.

My advice Lisie is to listen to your Doctor about smoking. Education about quitting is a valuable tool. I found patches very helpful when I was quitting. There are other products available if patches aren't for you. I found being motivated to keep trying and determination to stay quit worked for me. I wish you well with your health and good luck with your quit

I'm currently at 5 weeks, since I quit, after 36 years as a smoker. I am on step 2 of patches & going well. I believe, to be successful at quitting, you have to have made that choice.

Well I'm old. Been smoking on more than off, so smoking for 49 years. Used to be a gym junkie which helped me with unusually healthy lungs as a healthy person. Now not so at my age.

Nicotine replacement products are good. Patches get you over the hard times and can take the edge off as I've experienced. Don't have to go through the 1,2,3 step as stated on packaging.

I can't count how many times I've tried to give up. A product of my life I guess. But now I have early stage emphysema which I won't let take me away.
So in 2 days I will seriously quit.

Can use more than one nicotine replacement in conjunction which I will have to do. I just have to put walking, exercise etc first to take my mind off what I've done forever. Fresh air is paramount.
