Hi all, I am 46 years old and have been smoking for 30 years and smoke up to 30 per day. I have wanted to quit for years but have never had the right mindset or willpower to do so. I am now determined to quit but am nervous that I won’t be able to do it so asked my GP for help. I have been prescribed Varenapix and start those today 30/11/23 which I am also nervous about taking. I am looking forward to being able to look back at my story and say I did it!!!!

Hello and welcome. I smoked a pack a day for over 40 and found quitting this time very easy. I guess I was ready and joined a site for help. It is the right mindset which is most important in my opinion. Aids can help, but it is the mind that must find the will and acceptance. When you change how you feel about smoking, know why you smoke and believe that you can quit , you will. Smoking never did anything for us and we have been brainwashed into thinking it does anything but alleviate the craving. Smoking is but an endless cycle to APPEASE CRAVINGS.

    What is varenicline?
Varenicline is a smoking cessation medicine. It is used together with behavior modification and counseling support to help you stop smoking.

I took the time to look up Varenicline and is is much like Champix. I warn those taking it to read the label and have loved ones aware that they are taking it and notice any aggressive mood changes or suicidal thoughts. Just a precaution, as it has caused disruptive behaviour in some. Limit alcohol with these products as well.
I hope your learning and support with us will be of great help, as counseling is prescribed along with these quit smoking aids.
Stay positive. you CAN do this!
