I started smoking when 14. I married a man at 25 who hated smoking but whenever he was out hunting, etc. I would buy a pack. After 22 years of marriage we divorced and I, at age 47, began to smoke without reservation. I smoked when I was happy. I smoked when I was sad. I smoked whenever something happened abd I wanted to go outside and think about the event. Now at age 72 I finally went cold turkey. In the US where I live it costs about $8.00 a day including taxes. So I've saved $864 so far. That's 2 car payments. I still miss smoking. I will until the day I die. I don't really crave so much, but still want to smoke.

Hi like you I smoked for 50 years. You have done well going cold turkey, I had hypnotherapy to quit. I too still think about smoking. I agree - to make that conscience decision not to smoke is going to be a pain in my backside for the rest of my life too. I guess that’s how it goes when you’re an addict. Keep up the good work

Those of us who have smoked many decades do manage to go on and put smoking out of our minds and hearts, totally. Smoking does not define us, and we can enjoy other things in life with all that money saved, not to mention better health and the sheer freedom of no longer being at its beck and call.
Rejoice in your new found freedom and maybe you won't miss it. It is you who still think that you are missing out on something, while others only wish that they could have succeeded like you have done. Of course anyone can quit smoking and it is worth the effort. Congratulations!

Hello, I’m new here as I have to give up smoking (because of health issues). Here my major problem begins: I HAVE to, but don’t want to. As I have really no clue how to deal with having no cig and I don’t want to suffer from craving all the time, as I have already been very sick and suffering the last 10 years from a massive burn out. I don’t think I have any more power to struggle. Could anyone please comment on this please? This would be very helpful.
